Why can two “full details” have very different prices?

Car detailing is not a standardized service. One package may be a maintenance vacuum and hand wash; another may involve several hours of shampooing, extraction, decontamination and paint protection. A lower price is not automatically better value, and a higher one does not automatically mean better work.

A lighter detail may include

  • Interior vacuum and surface wipe-down
  • Windows, mats and cup holders
  • Exterior hand wash, wheels and tires
  • Tire dressing or a short-term protection product

A deeper detail may add

  • Carpet and upholstery extraction
  • Leather cleaning and conditioning
  • Stain, odour or pet-hair treatment
  • Iron removal and clay-bar decontamination
  • Paint sealant, machine polishing or coating preparation

The package name matters less than the itemized scope. Our interior-versus-full-detail guide makes that choice easier.

How much does interior car detailing cost?

Current advertised Vancouver-area interior services begin around $90 for a maintenance clean and reach roughly $180–$240 or more for deeper cleaning. The difference is usually whether the service is designed to tidy a regularly maintained cabin or reset stained carpets, upholstery and hard-to-reach areas.

For comparison, Foam Lab advertises interior services from $89.99 to $189.99 depending on service and vehicle size; Big D’s starts at $130. Vancouver Detailing’s Interior Detail currently starts at $174 and includes a thorough vacuum, mats, dashboard, doors and console, interior glass, and light stain treatment.

Pet hair, heavy stains, odour treatment, a third row and years of accumulated soil can add labour. If the cabin is your main concern, review our Interior Detail inclusions before requesting a quote.

How much does exterior detailing cost?

Basic advertised exterior services can start below $100, while more involved exterior details commonly reach $120–$160 or more. The deciding question is whether you are paying only to clean the vehicle or also to decontaminate and protect the paint.

Paint correction is a separate category. Machine polishing requires an inspection, careful preparation and significantly more labour than washing and applying a sealant. Ceramic coatings also require proper preparation and should not be confused with a spray product described as “ceramic.”

Does mobile car detailing cost more?

Not necessarily. Mobile and shop-based prices overlap across Vancouver. Mobile service also avoids driving to a shop, arranging a ride and returning later. Access can affect feasibility, however—particularly in condos or underground parking.

Our mobile car detailing guide explains water, power, parking and appointment preparation.

What can increase the final price?

  • Vehicle size: SUVs, trucks, vans and three-row vehicles have more area to clean.
  • Pet hair: Embedded hair often needs repeated agitation and vacuuming.
  • Heavy stains or soil: Extraction and repeated treatment add time.
  • Odours: Smoke, pets and moisture can need targeted treatment beyond ordinary cleaning.
  • Paint condition: Swirls, scratches, oxidation and contamination determine how much correction is realistic.
  • Access: Difficult parking or site restrictions can change whether mobile service is possible.

How to compare detailing quotes

  1. Compare inclusions, not package names. Ask what is cleaned, treated and protected.
  2. Confirm the vehicle category. A sedan rate may not apply to a large SUV.
  3. Describe condition honestly. Photos of stains, pet hair and cargo areas help prevent surprises.
  4. Ask what protection is used. Wax, sealant, spray ceramic and a true coating are different products.
  5. Get the final price and extras in writing. Understand taxes, travel, add-ons and condition charges.

The bottom line

Vancouver car detailing can cost under $100 for a light service, around $200–$400 for many thorough interior-and-exterior packages, and substantially more for restoration-level paint work or coatings. The best value is the package that matches your vehicle’s actual condition and the result you want.
